How can we help?

Answers to the questions we hear most about claims, payments and your policy.

Claims

9 questions

Only the owner of the insurance policy can make a claim. The claim must be reported and all requested documents submitted before HSI can process it. Your agent or broker can also make a claim on your behalf.

Report it to our offices within 7 days, on +248 4280 441 during working hours or by email to claims@hsi.sc.

For individual life policies, the beneficiaries or next of kin should notify the Life Department within 24 hours.

Yes. Report the accident to your insurer within 7 days, particularly if you are accepting liability for the accident. If the policy owner does not accept responsibility for an accident, a claim cannot be processed under their policy.

Claims are only processed once all required documents have been submitted to HSI. The documents needed to lodge a claim vary by type of insurance. You can see the list for each type of claim on our Make a claim page.

Yes, you may submit estimates from your chosen repairer. However, all quotations are reviewed by an Independent Motor Assessor. HSI reserves the right to get extra estimates from other authorised repairers to make sure costs are accurate and comply with the policy terms.

Excess applies only to certain types of insurance. It is a pre-agreed amount that you pay to your insurer in the event of a claim, or that is automatically deducted from your claim amount, depending on the type of policy the claim is made under.

The exact amount is agreed when your policy starts. For Motor insurance, excess applies only under comprehensive policies when you claim under your own policy. The amount varies depending on the type of insurance.

Yes, but only if your car has comprehensive cover. Loss of use cover gives you a replacement vehicle while your vehicle is being repaired. The loss of use limit is based on the sum agreed when your policy starts.

If the claim is valid and all documents are in order, your claim will be finalised in an efficient and timely manner.
